My adventures with BCG started on June 25, 1994, when I founded E.E. Butow Services because I enjoy creating good marketing and graphic design. I started my company because I feel that businesses should have marketing materials that look good and are well-written. Soon after I was laid off by Buckner, a sprinkler manufacturer in Fresno, California, the company discovered they still needed me. So, Buckner became my first client.
Eric’s First Website
In early 1996, my boss at Buckner, Rebecca Lyles, hired me to write technical documentation at Dantel, a Fresno telecommunications company. Rebecca explained to me that “you’re the one person I know who can write.” At the same time, my parents purchased a bed and breakfast in Jackson, California, and they needed a website. So, I created an award-winning site for them. As I developed the site, I found that I enjoyed designing websites as much as I did graphic design and marketing materials.
Website Samples
I still enjoy working with customers to help their websites grow their businesses. BCG has developed a number of websites using HTML, CSS, and WordPress.
Feel free to review the websites we’ve created for our clients:
- Mirasol Village
- Eclipse Flooring and Design
- West Gateway Place
- Cannery Place Apartments
- A Stroll Through Calculus
- Anthony Barcellos
- Land of Milk and Money
I arranged these sites in order of completion with our most current sites first.
Course Development
As I worked with customers to develop marketing materials, several of them asked me to create online courses. Course topics include:
- Windows networking
- Computer usability
- QuickBooks
- Adobe Acrobat
- Windows Vista
- Adobe RoboHelp 2019
An Established Book Author
If all that wasn’t enough, my adventures include writing computer books, and the Fresh Books literary agency represents me.
Eric started his book career as a technical editor for RoboHelp 7 for Dummies (Wiley) in the late 1990s. I edited six other books before I wrote my first book, Master Visually Windows 2000 Server, in November 2000. Since then, I’ve authored, co-authored, or ghost authored 41 books, with two more in development as of this writing. You can see my most recent books in the sidebar.
BCG and Logo Evolution
BCG gradually changed over the years. E.E. Butow Services eventually became Butow Communications Group, but the company logo has mostly stayed the same. Where did the design come from?
I was inspired by visits to my grandparents at Butow Organic Vineyards that was run by my family from 1946 to 2012. Each new member of the family was introduced to the grapevines by their parents, and inevitably the youngster grabbed the grape leaves.
So, I used that spirit of discovery in the logo, which captures the connection between your customer (the hand) and the fruits of your labor (the grapes).
Now that we’ve stepped out of the Wayback Machine, you can learn more about the mission of this blog.
In the meantime, I’m looking forward to sharing your business and your adventures with the world!
