When to post on social media is a popular question on social media sites. Right now, I don’t pay much attention to the best times because I post when I have something to say. But I know that is going to change someday. The same is true for my clients, and I know you’re curious.
I was reminded about this by a recent LinkedIn poll posted by Sophia Lovasz, who is a business owner in the Phoenix area. She asked a series of questions about posting on LinkedIn:
- What time do you post on LinkedIn?
- Is there an ideal time?
- And does it have to be the same time every time you post?
Sophia said that she didn’t think there was an ideal time based on her experience. She said that for her, she found better results on weekends. Otherwise, she saw no difference.
Survey Says
With that said, Sophia decided to create a survey. She asked what times her readers thought were best, and they gave her the following results:
- Morning: 25%
- Afternoon: 9%
- Evening: 8%
- Random times: 58%
I didn’t take the survey myself, because I was curious about what Sophia’s readers would say. I remembered I read a May 2021 article from Sprout Social titled “The Best Times to Post on Social Media in 2021”.
A Different Time
The Sprout Social study showed that the best times to post on LinkedIn are Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. That should come as no surprise because in my experience, people are putting out fires on Mondays and they want to finish their work on Fridays. To me, workdays are calmer in the middle of the week and people have time to look at their e-mail messages. People also have more time to look at their messages in the morning because by the afternoon, work has piled up. The study is in line with Sophia’s survey that had morning as the most popular specific time by far.
I was curious to know the LinkedIn times compared with the best times for Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Here’s a summary from the Sprout Social article:
- Facebook: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Instagram: Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Mondays through Fridays at 11:00 a.m.
- Twitter: Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
What does this mean? The question of when to post on social media is up to you. Every audience is different. These times don’t mean you don’t have to do any work. But this information is a good place for you to start and see what responses you get. Let me know when you post on social media and why. I’m curious.
